ABOUT THE PROGRAM
-----------------

'eMerge for Windows' allows you to send electronic mail to a selection 
of people or companies with an Email address. Information about these 
people can be stored in an existing data source. By combining the standard 
text in a form message with fields from a data source, you can merge the 
form message with the data source and create individual messages. 

This makes it easy to keep in touch with customers, suppliers, business 
associates or anyone with an Email address using the power and flexibility 
of 'eMerge for Windows'.


The program supports the following data source formats:

o MS Access (1.1 and 2.0 formats)
o dBase (III and IV formats)
o FoxPro (2.0 and 2.5 formats)
o Paradox (3.X and 4.X formats)


The program will create messages according to the official SOUP format and 
you process the messages from your Internet host using the 'uqwk' program 
(or any other SOUP compatible program). Messages will be zipped 
automatically by the program in order to save the time it takes to upload 
the messages from your computer to the Internet host.


Future versions

We are working hard to improve the product and a number of new features 
will be added shortly. Among them:

o Support for international characters (MIME quoted-printable)
o Send messages using SLIP/PPP (like Eudora/Netscape)
o Internal database (MS Access format)
o Kill files
o More

INSTALLATION 'eMerge for Windows'
---------------------------------

Before you start the installation procedure, be sure you have the 'vbrun300.dll' 
file in your /WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory. We have choosen not to include this file,
as 90% of users already have dozens of copies of this file. If you don't have
it, check your local BBS or Internet FTP site.

1. Unzip the ZIP file to a temporary directory on your harddisk.

2. Using the file manager, double-click 'setup.exe'.

3. The program installs itself. The program will automatically replace
   existing *.DLL and *.VBX files in your WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory IF
   the existing version is older than the one that comes with
   eMerge for Windows. It checks the version number of the
   files during installation.

   Necessary Program Groups will be created by the program.

If you want to manually install the program, you can use the EXPAND.EXE
program that comes with Windows 3.1 from the DOS prompt.

   The syntax is:
	expand  filename.dl_ c:\windows\system\filename.dll

The installation program will only replace identical files where the 
internal version number of the existing file (not the date) is older
than the installation file. All supplementary files are the latest
available versions.

The latest build of 'eMerge for Windows' (with reported bug fix'es) 
will be available from

and later from our own WEB-site (to be announced shortly). If you
have already installed the program, you just need to download the
upgrade files and replace old files with the newer ones.
